E.T. on Atari 2600 is famous the way a kitchen fire is famous: everyone knows about it, nobody wants to recreate it, and yet you can’t look away from the story. It’s the poster child for “rushed development meets impossible expectations,” and while it’s easy to dunk on, it’s also a fascinating artifact.
Visually, it’s… rough. The playfield is confusing, the pits dominate everything, and the feedback isn’t clear enough to teach you what the game wants.
Sound is similarly thin and repetitive, adding to the disorientation.
Gameplay is where the legend becomes reality. The pits are the main event, and not in a good way. Objectives are opaque, and the game doesn’t teach effectively.
Honesty time: there is design ambition here—small adventure on limited hardware—but ambition without clarity becomes frustration.
Verdict: infamous for a reason—historically interesting, rarely enjoyable.

First-person dungeon crawling that feels like you’re inside a ticking clock. Real-time combat, inventory puzzles, and a constant low-grade panic. The UI is legendary for a reason—it just works. It can be unforgiving, but it’s immersive in that “I live here now, please send food” way.

A massive snowbound sandbox where survival, strategy, and stealth all collide. It’s ambitious in the best way—multiple characters, planning routes, managing risk—and it feels like a prototype of modern open-world thinking. Not always smooth, but deeply immersive once you’re in. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

Half strategy, half simulation, all “I have too many systems to manage and I love it.” You command a carrier, deploy units, capture islands, and constantly juggle priorities like a stressed admiral with caffeine. The learning curve is a wall, but behind it is a surprisingly deep sandbox. Great for players who enjoy being overwhelmed on purpose.

Early 3D space shooting that feels like flying through vector geometry and ambition. It’s not “smooth modern flight,” but it’s fast and surprisingly thrilling once you adjust to the era’s handling. The real joy is the sensation of speed and the novelty of 3D combat on home hardware. Retro-futurism in playable form.

A strange, stylish sci-fi adventure that feels like a concept album you can walk around in. It’s more atmosphere and experimentation than clean puzzle design, and it can be cryptic, but it’s memorable because nothing else quite looks or feels like it. It’s the kind of game you recommend with the phrase “trust me, it’s weird.”
