Zeddy Goes Full Blast Turns the ZX Spectrum Into a Nine-Stage Tribute to Classic Arcade Shooters

Developer zeddy48 releases Zeddy Goes Full Blast for the ZX Spectrum 128K, delivering nine stages of smooth 50fps arcade shooter homage.

Developer zeddy48 has released Zeddy Goes Full Blast, a new shoot-'em-up designed for the ZX Spectrum 128K. Published on October 16, the game takes inspiration from several famous arcade shooters and combines their mechanics into a connected adventure. The story follows Zeddy, who previously battled computer bugs in Zeddy's Clean Sweep. This time, an angry Commodore logo sends the character backwards through videogame history, forcing him to survive increasingly dangerous arcade-style encounters. The nine stages reference classics including Galaxian, Centipede, Galaga and Gridrunner. Each level introduces different enemy formations and attack patterns, while additional challenges appear as the adventure progresses. Players can collect upgrades including lasers, speed boosts, drones, smart bombs and chain-lightning weapons. Four main weapon types are available, and the game includes a short Caravan mode that challenges players to achieve the highest possible score within two minutes. The developer reports smooth fifty-frame-per-second gameplay, original AY music and support for keyboard and joystick controls. The release is distributed as a TAP file suitable for compatible emulators and original Spectrum 128K hardware. Because the stages are stored as separate tape blocks, original hardware users may encounter loading pauses between levels. The game is available free of charge. Zeddy Goes Full Blast demonstrates the enduring appeal of classic arcade design, where a straightforward objective becomes increasingly complicated through enemy behaviour and escalating difficulty. The ZX Spectrum may never have been an arcade powerhouse, but its modern developers are clearly unwilling to accept that limitation.
