Warrior Man Expands Its Neo Geo Homebrew Ambitions With Newly Playable Fighting Mode

Nico Klem updates multi-genre Neo Geo homebrew Warrior Man, making the beat-'em-up mode playable alongside shmup and driving gameplay.

The Neo Geo homebrew community has received another development update from creator Nico Klem, whose ambitious Warrior Man project attempts to combine three distinct arcade game styles into one package. A new development log published on October 25 confirms that the game's beat-'em-up mode has become playable, marking another step toward completion. The project targets SNK's Neo Geo MVS and AES hardware and features a fictional Neo Geo City threatened by hostile gangs. Players control Marius or Lisa while attempting to rescue Marius's missing girlfriend, Lena. The fighting mode includes punches, kicks, guarding, jumping and a special Storm Attack powered by a charge meter. Two-player support, high scores and a traditional lives-and-continues structure are also included. What makes Warrior Man particularly unusual is its broader design. Alongside the fighting mode, the project offers a horizontally scrolling shooter featuring charged weapons and an upgradeable satellite system, plus a pseudo-three-dimensional driving mode with configurable difficulty, vehicle colours and computer-controlled traffic. The developer provides downloadable builds designed for several Neo Geo flash-cartridge solutions, including BackBit, Darksoft and NeoSD-compatible arrangements, with MiSTer FPGA support also referenced. English, French, Spanish and Japanese language options are listed. Importantly, Warrior Man remains an unfinished homebrew project rather than a completed commercial release. Its developer has acknowledged reports of compatibility problems and continues working on improvements. The project also includes disclosed AI-assisted development. Combining a fighting game, shooter and driving experience on one Neo Geo cartridge is an ambitious undertaking for an independent creator. Whether all three modes ultimately achieve the same standard remains to be seen, but the latest playable fighting update gives enthusiasts another reason to follow its progress. Apparently one arcade genre simply wasn't enough trouble.
