Tough Nuts HD Update Gives Classic Amiga Players a New Cross-Platform Physics Adventure

Nero Games expands slingshot adventure Tough Nuts from Amiga AGA to Windows, macOS, and Linux with higher resolution visuals across 90 destruction-heavy levels.

The Commodore Amiga's modern game library continues expanding with Tough Nuts, an original physics-based puzzle adventure from developer Nero Games. Although its initial version appeared earlier in the week, a significant October 23 update introduced additional desktop editions for Windows, macOS and Linux, expanding the project's reach beyond original hardware. Players control a team of animated nuts defending the Great Oak from an invading army of bark beetles. Each level requires launching characters from a slingshot into structures constructed from materials with different physical properties. Wood, stone, ice, bamboo and other materials react differently to impacts, requiring players to choose their attacks carefully. Nine worlds contain ten levels each, creating ninety challenges that gradually introduce additional characters and obstacles. Heroes possess special abilities, such as increased weight, splitting into smaller projectiles or exploding on impact. Each world concludes with a boss encounter, while cartoon sequences explain the wider story. The Amiga edition supports AGA-equipped systems such as the Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000 and can be launched from floppy disks or hard-drive installations. The newer desktop editions preserve the same rules and content while presenting the artwork at higher resolution. Progress saving and English and Russian language options are included. The game is distributed on a name-your-own-price basis. The project demonstrates how contemporary physics-based puzzle games can operate within the limitations of a vintage computer while remaining adaptable to modern systems. The Commodore Amiga was famous for colourful platformers and arcade conversions. Tough Nuts suggests that its modern owners might also enjoy destroying elaborate structures with strategically launched hazelnuts.
