Thunder Hoop Collection Finally Brings Two Forgotten Gaelco Arcade Games Home
QUByte Interactive launches Thunder Hoop Collection on modern consoles and PC, reviving Gaelco's obscure Spanish arcade action-platformers Thunder Hoop and TH Strikes Back.
QUByte Interactive's Thunder Hoop Collection reaches its scheduled October 8 release date, bringing together two wonderfully peculiar Spanish arcade games that never received conventional home-console conversions during their original commercial lives. The collection contains Gaelco's Thunder Hoop from 1992 and its 1994 sequel TH Strikes Back. Both are action-platformers starring a genetically enhanced hero battling increasingly outrageous biological monstrosities created by the villainous Professor Genbreak. The original game is colourful and relatively restrained by early-1990s arcade standards, while its sequel embraces the period's enthusiastic approach to exaggerated characters, strange enemies and spectacularly questionable artistic decisions. QUByte has added modern conveniences including save states, rewind functionality and CRT-style display filters, making the games considerably more approachable than they were when every mistake demanded another coin. The collection is scheduled for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC, with Nintendo listing a $9.99 American launch price. These games previously appeared on Evercade's Gaelco arcade cartridges, but their arrival on mainstream digital storefronts represents a meaningful improvement in accessibility. Preservation is not exclusively about celebrating universally recognised masterpieces. It also means ensuring that obscure regional arcade releases survive beyond the handful of original cabinets still operating somewhere. Thunder Hoop is precisely the sort of gloriously strange material that deserves another opportunity to find an audience. Whether that audience is emotionally prepared for TH Strikes Back is another question entirely.
