Star Force Is Coming to Amiga AGA as Acidbottle Shows Progress on Another Ambitious Arcade Conversion
Amiga developer acidbottle reveals new development gameplay of an AGA arcade port of Tecmo's 1984 classic Star Force featuring authentic weapons and an IM76 soundtrack.
Amiga developer acidbottle has revealed fresh development footage from an unofficial conversion of Tecmo's classic arcade shooter Star Force, adding another project to a growing collection of modern Amiga arcade adaptations. The October 10 demonstration confirms that development is progressing, although the game is not yet a finished public release. Originally launched in Japanese arcades in 1984, Star Force became known for its relentless vertical scrolling, rapid enemy formations and distinctive progression through stages named after letters of the Greek alphabet. North American arcade players also encountered the game under the name Mega Force. Acidbottle's new version targets Amiga AGA hardware and follows earlier work on conversions including Centipede and Defender. Development reportedly began with Scorpion Engine prototypes before moving toward a different implementation approach, with the developer acknowledging assistance from contemporary AI tools. The planned conversion aims to reproduce the original game's two-level weapon system and continuous stage progression rather than adding modern features that would substantially alter its identity. Musician IM76 is expected to contribute to the soundtrack, although the final audio arrangements remain unfinished. The development video demonstrates the project's direction but does not establish complete arcade accuracy, performance or compatibility. Those questions will require a playable build and testing on authentic hardware. Nevertheless, Star Force is a natural candidate for the Amiga, whose scrolling capabilities and arcade-oriented architecture were well suited to this kind of action. Forty-two years after its arcade debut, another generation of players may soon discover that the universe apparently consists entirely of enemy spacecraft determined to fly directly into them.
