Sparkpaw AGA Alpha Adds Water Levels and Vehicle-Based Shooting to Amiga Adventure

MrDig expands Sparkpaw: The Stormstone Quest with alpha v0.7.0-15, introducing water stages, skimmer vehicle shooting, dynamic flooding puzzles, and 4-disk size.

Developer MrDig has continued expanding Sparkpaw: The Stormstone Quest, an original run-and-gun adventure for AGA-equipped Commodore Amigas. The latest publicly documented alpha, version 0.7.0-15, introduces additional environments and gameplay mechanics that move the project beyond conventional side-scrolling action. Earlier development work added Stormrail, a vehicle-based sequence in which players control a skimmer through a horizontal shooting stage filled with debris and enemies. The sequence culminates in a battle against an enemy known as the Harrier. The newer alpha expands the campaign with two water-themed levels. Drowned Turbines introduces moving pontoons, water jets, waterfalls and a mid-boss called Rain Core. Backflow Shaft changes the pace with a vertical escape sequence in which players must climb while rising water creates constant pressure. Shooting valves can temporarily slow the flooding, adding an environmental puzzle element to the action. The update also introduces animated backgrounds, including storm clouds, lightning, moving water, steam and rotating machinery. Control handling has been improved for joysticks and joypads, while the skimmer now supports movement in multiple directions. A new software audio mixer allows music and sound effects to play simultaneously. These additions have increased the project's storage requirements from one floppy disk to four. MrDig acknowledges using AI-assisted development tools. Sparkpaw remains an alpha release, and its final scope and completion date are not confirmed. Nevertheless, the project demonstrates considerable ambition for a modern Amiga game. Apparently simply shooting enemies was no longer challenging enough, so the developer decided to add flooding, aircraft and several more disks.
