Socket Launcher 0.8.0 Adds Dual-Screen Support and Major Improvements for Android Retro Handhelds

Android retro handheld owners have received a useful software update with the release of Socket Launcher version 0.8.0. The application provides a dedicated frontend for organising and launching games through different emulators, concentrating on a tactile interface inspired by browsing physical game collections. Its latest update introduces support for dual-screen handhelds, including devices such as the AYN Thor. The lower display can now show applications and management options while the upper screen handles the main interface. A single-screen mode remains available for users who prefer a conventional layout. Additional improvements include playtime tracking, new sorting options, a random-game selector and an on-screen keyboard designed around handheld controls. The developer has also addressed several practical problems, including incorrect controller-button layouts, emulator-launching errors and freezes when switching between certain platforms. Performance optimisation is another important part of the release. According to the developer, the application can now maintain a stable sixty-frame-per-second interface on lower-powered configurations such as the entry-level KONKR Pocket Advance. This claim reflects developer testing rather than independent benchmarking across every device. The update is currently distributed through the project's Patreon system. Socket is not itself a replacement for the emulators required to run individual games. Its purpose is to make a growing collection easier to navigate and manage. Retro handhelds have become increasingly powerful, but their software interfaces have not always kept pace. Socket's developers apparently believe that finding a game should not require more effort than completing it.
