Portopia Serial Murder Case Remake Gets March 2027 Japanese Release Date and Physical Nintendo Editions
G-Mode announces March 4, 2027 Japanese launch for NEXT: The Portopia Serial Murder Case on Switch, Switch 2, and Steam with Yuji Horii and original Famicom bonus.
One of the most historically significant Japanese adventure games has received an important release update. Publisher G-Mode has confirmed that NEXT: The Portopia Serial Murder Case, developed with room6, will launch in Japan on March 4, 2027, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam. The announcement also opens preorders for physical Nintendo editions, providing another option for collectors interested in Yuji Horii's influential detective series. The original Portopia Serial Murder Case appeared for Japanese computers in 1983 before receiving a famous Famicom adaptation. Its investigation-based structure influenced an entire generation of Japanese adventure designers, including creators who would later work on major role-playing and narrative games. The new project revisits the mystery through updated presentation while expanding the experience with five additional investigation files. Yuji Horii is serving as executive director, connecting the project directly to its historical origins. Music is being provided by Shinya Kiyozuka, while Kyoji Asano has created character designs and new packaging artwork. Standard physical editions are priced at 7,678 yen, with limited editions costing 9,878 yen and including a soundtrack and A5 booklet. Particularly interesting is the inclusion of the original Famicom Portopia Serial Murder Case in the physical Nintendo packages. That historical version is not currently advertised as part of the digital editions. No international release has been confirmed, meaning Western enthusiasts should not assume that an English localisation will follow automatically. The announcement demonstrates how publishers are increasingly revisiting historically influential Japanese games rather than concentrating exclusively on internationally famous franchises. Portopia helped establish conventions that shaped Japanese adventure gaming. More than forty years later, players are preparing to investigate its mysteries again.
