Nybble and Nibble Brings Its Sixty-Room C64 Adventure to Amiga With Surprisingly Rich Graphics
Gaboo Arts Entertainment ports 60-room platform adventure Nybble & Nibble to the Commodore Amiga, using HAM6 graphics and Copper palette tricks on a 1MB OCS Amiga 500.
Gaboo Arts Entertainment's Nybble & Nibble has received a full Commodore Amiga release, bringing its previously released C64 platform adventure to a new audience with substantially enhanced visuals and audio. The Amiga edition was released on October 7 and retains the original game's sixty rooms spread across six distinct zones. Players control Nybble, a tiny character representing half a byte, who must navigate a glowing electronic world to find the missing half that will make them whole. Movement includes variable-height jumps, wall climbing, wall slides and an eight-direction air dash, with forty-eight optional collectibles providing additional challenges. The most impressive technical achievement is the game's modest hardware requirement. It runs on an OCS Amiga with just 1MB of RAM, including an Amiga 500 equipped with a 512KB expansion. The developers combine HAM6 graphics, Copper-assisted palette techniques and hardware sprites to produce richly coloured environments while retaining compatibility with relatively basic configurations. Both PAL and NTSC modes are supported, and testing has included WinUAE and THEA500 Mini. The full game costs $8.99, while a free five-room demonstration is available separately. The release includes two ADF disk images, documentation and printable artwork. Development involved disclosed AI assistance, but the resulting game is a native Amiga executable rather than a modern application pretending to be one. Finding your missing four bits has rarely looked quite so elaborate.
