Nintendo Switch Online Adds Mole Mania, Avenging Spirit and Revenge of the Gator to Its Game Boy Library
Nintendo expands its Game Boy Classics catalogue on Nintendo Switch Online with Mole Mania, Avenging Spirit, and Revenge of the Gator.
Nintendo has expanded its Game Boy Classics catalogue with three wonderfully different handheld games, giving subscribers another opportunity to revisit an era when portable gaming involved four shades of green and an unreasonable number of AA batteries. The October 27 update introduces Mole Mania, Avenging Spirit and Revenge of the Gator to Nintendo Switch Online. Mole Mania, originally released in Japan in 1996, is a particularly welcome addition. Designed with input from Shigeru Miyamoto, the puzzle adventure follows a determined mole attempting to rescue his kidnapped family. Players alternate between travelling above ground and tunnelling underground, manipulating obstacles and discovering routes through increasingly complicated environments. Avenging Spirit offers something considerably stranger. Originally developed by Jaleco, it places players in control of a murdered character whose ghost can possess enemies, borrowing their abilities to navigate dangerous stages. Revenge of the Gator, developed by HAL Laboratory in 1989, delivers a charming pinball experience filled with crocodile-themed tables, bonus stages and deceptively addictive scoring challenges. All three games are included with the standard Nintendo Switch Online membership and are accessible through the Game Boy Nintendo Classics application on compatible Switch systems. Nintendo's official October 27 announcement confirms their addition, so this is an actual catalogue update rather than another speculative release schedule. The selection demonstrates the remarkable variety of Nintendo's original handheld library. One game involves underground engineering, another involves supernatural revenge, and the third involves repeatedly launching a metal ball at cartoon reptiles. The Game Boy really did have something for everyone.
