Nintendo Announces Avenging Spirit, Mole Mania and Revenge of the Gator for Game Boy Classics
Nintendo confirms Game Boy gems Avenging Spirit, Miyamoto's Mole Mania, and HAL's Revenge of the 'Gator arrive on Nintendo Classics on October 27.
Nintendo has confirmed that three original Game Boy games will join its Nintendo Classics library on October 27, expanding the selection available to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 subscribers. The additions are Avenging Spirit, Mole Mania and Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator, a particularly interesting selection that mixes unusual arcade action, inventive puzzle design and classic handheld pinball. Avenging Spirit originally appeared in 1992 and places players in control of a ghost seeking revenge against the criminals responsible for his death. Its central mechanic allows the protagonist to possess enemy characters, gaining access to their unique abilities and weapons. That unusual concept helped distinguish it from conventional action-platform games of the period. Mole Mania, produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, follows Muddy Mole as he attempts to rescue his kidnapped family. Players alternate between surface movement and underground digging while manipulating objects, avoiding enemies and solving increasingly elaborate puzzles. Revenge of the 'Gator was developed by HAL Laboratory and delivers a colourful pinball experience spread across interconnected tables and bonus stages. The announcement is significant because original copies of certain Game Boy titles have become expensive on the collectors' market, restricting access for players who simply want to experience the games. Nintendo Classics offers a more convenient official alternative, although access depends on maintaining a compatible subscription. Importantly, the games were announced on October 23 but are scheduled to become playable on October 27; they are not being presented as already available. The three titles demonstrate the unusual variety of the Game Boy library. Nintendo's handheld was never merely a machine for Tetris and Pokémon. Apparently it was also perfectly capable of producing ghosts, adventurous moles and an unreasonable quantity of pinball.
