Ninja JaJaMaru Returns as a Pixel-Art Hack-and-Slash RPG With More Than 300 Weapons

City Connection debuts Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade at Tokyo Game Show 2026, reimagining the classic Famicom series as an action RPG with over 300 collectable weapons.

City Connection is giving another veteran Japanese series a considerably more ambitious revival with Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade. The new game was playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 and reimagines the long-running JaJaMaru franchise as a loot-driven action RPG while deliberately maintaining the pixel-art identity associated with the series. JaJaMaru explores brightly coloured dungeons overflowing with yokai, collecting weapons and equipment carrying random attributes and unusual monster-derived abilities. Five major weapon types shown so far include swords, spears, kusarigama, hammers and claw weapons, while ranged options such as shuriken and kunai provide additional tactical possibilities. City Connection says the final game will contain more than 300 weapons. The TGS build also demonstrates the Hundred Demon Night Parade areas, where large groups of animated yokai dance through environments before culminating in boss encounters. Traditional JaJaMaru pixel artwork has been expanded with significantly more detailed animation, including wonderfully unnecessary things such as monsters head-spinning on the dance floor. Boss battles introduce a break gauge that temporarily leaves enemies vulnerable once filled. Ninja JaJaMaru began life on Japanese computers and the Famicom during the 1980s, making this another example of a once distinctly 8-bit property being rebuilt as a full contemporary release rather than simply being placed inside another compilation. Launch is planned for 2027.
