The highly anticipated Neo Geo AES+ will not launch in 2026 after all. PLAION REPLAI announced on 9 September that its modern recreation of SNK's legendary home console has been delayed until 16 September 2027, pushing the system back almost an entire year from its previously announced 12 November 2026 release date. PLAION says the delay is the result of global component-supply constraints combined with stronger demand than it had anticipated. Rather than release the AES+ in extremely limited numbers, the company says it wants additional time to secure components and build enough systems for a proper worldwide launch. Existing pre-orders remain valid and retain their position in the queue, with no price increase and no action required from customers. PLAION is also promising a Founding Supporter Bonus with consoles from the initial production run as compensation for the wait. The delay is particularly painful because the AES+ occupies an unusual place in the current retro-hardware market. Rather than being another generic Android box carrying a Neo Geo-inspired shell, it is designed specifically around recreating the experience of SNK's original 1990 Advanced Entertainment System.
