Mike Tyson's Punch-Out Arrives on Amiga in an Unofficial Conversion of Nintendo's Legendary Boxing Game

Amigos Retro Gaming releases an unofficial Amiga 1200 conversion of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, bringing the NES boxing classic to Commodore 16-bit hardware via WHDLoad.

Nintendo's classic boxing game has entered the Commodore Amiga ring, with Amigos Retro Gaming releasing an unofficial adaptation of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out on November 1. The new download brings the familiar boxing formula to Commodore hardware and allows players to experience a reinterpretation of one of the NES generation's most memorable sporting challenges. The original Punch-Out became famous for combining boxing with puzzle-like pattern recognition. Rather than simply pressing attack buttons continuously, successful players had to study opponents, dodge their distinctive punches and exploit brief opportunities to counterattack. The Amiga version follows a similar premise, placing players in control of Little Mitchy as he fights through a collection of opponents before confronting the formidable Iron Mike. The developer describes the project as the classic NES fighting experience brought to the Amiga for the first time. The currently available download is a WHDLoad-compatible LHA archive measuring approximately 361KB. Minimum hardware requirements are listed as an Amiga 1200 equipped with 2MB of Fast RAM, so owners of unexpanded Amiga 500 systems should not assume compatibility. The game is available through itch.io on a name-your-own-price basis. This remains an unofficial fan conversion rather than a Nintendo-licensed commercial release, and extensive compatibility testing across different Amiga configurations has not been published. Nevertheless, it represents another interesting addition to the expanding collection of modern software for Commodore's sixteen-bit computers. Amiga enthusiasts spent decades watching Nintendo players endure an endless series of knockouts. Now they can discover whether the experience becomes any less frustrating with a different computer connected to the joystick.
