Lufia I & II Return in 2027 With a New Modern Release

Taito and Clear River Games are bringing Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals back together in 2027, enhanced for modern play.

Two SNES-era JRPGs that have spent far too long trapped in collectors' cabinets are finally packing for a return trip. Taito and Clear River Games have announced Lufia I & II The Sinistrals Saga for 2027, pairing Lufia & the Fortress of Doom with its celebrated prequel, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals.

The official Steam listing describes the games as being ported and enhanced for modern play, but stops short of calling the package a remaster. That distinction matters: no sweeping visual rebuild has been promised, and the precise convenience features have not yet been detailed. What is confirmed is that both core 1990s adventures are included, with Taito developing and Taito alongside Clear River Games publishing the PC edition.

The pairing makes narrative sense. The first Lufia follows a descendant of a legendary hero and a young woman pulled into a larger destiny, while Lufia II rewinds the timeline to Maxim and the generation whose struggle established the legend. The sequel's puzzle-heavy dungeons and famously punishing Ancient Cave helped it build a reputation that outgrew the series itself.

A firm day and month have not been announced. For now, 2027 is the window and Steam is the clearest officially listed platform. After years of awkward availability, simply having these two games commercially obtainable again is already a meaningful win.
