Hyper Runner Hits Digital Release Day and Gives the Amiga AGA a Futuristic Racing Fix
Raster Wizards releases futuristic racer Hyper Runner digitally for Amiga AGA and CD32 hardware on itch.io, mixing OutRun-style arcade racing with sci-fi speed.
Raster Wizards' Hyper Runner reaches its scheduled digital release today, October 6, putting a new futuristic racer onto Amiga AGA hardware at a time when most commercial developers regard the machine as something found underneath a dust cover in somebody's spare bedroom. The game mixes ideas associated with arcade racers such as OutRun with the speed and science-fiction styling of futuristic racing games. Players race against the clock and rival vehicles while avoiding roadside hazards and collecting useful items including repair kits, additional boost and extra time. The project supports conventional joysticks and CD32 controllers and is designed for AGA Amigas and CD32 systems, with FPGA and emulator users also catered for. Physical editions have already begun appearing: the jewel-box version debuted in September around Passione Amiga Day, while a larger boxed edition remains part of the project's publishing plans. Today's important development is the downloadable edition becoming available through the developer's itch.io page, making the game considerably easier to obtain internationally. Modern Amiga development has become impressively diverse, ranging from adventure games and platformers to ambitious arcade conversions, but an original high-speed racer remains comparatively unusual. Hyper Runner therefore fills a useful gap. Thirty-odd years after Commodore left the building, somebody is still making games that require an AGA chipset and quick reflexes. That is difficult not to admire.
