HAMSTER Brings 1986 Home-Console Crazy Climber to Console Archives

HAMSTER releases Nichibutsu's 1986 8-bit home-console conversion of Crazy Climber for PS5 and Switch 2 as part of its Console Archives line.

HAMSTER's newer Console Archives preservation line has expanded with the 1986 home-console version of Crazy Climber, now available for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. Unlike the company's Arcade Archives catalogue, Console Archives focuses on historical home conversions and console releases rather than the original coin-operated versions. That distinction makes this Crazy Climber particularly interesting. The game represents Nichibutsu's 8-bit home-console interpretation of its famous vertical climbing concept, challenging players to ascend skyscrapers while avoiding falling objects and enemies including gorillas, iron balls and other hazards. The release costs $7.99 and includes a selection of modern conveniences developed for Console Archives. These can include configurable button layouts, rapid-fire settings, multiple save points and, where supported, rewind functionality. Display layouts and visual filters designed to evoke CRT televisions are also available. Only the Japanese version of the original game is included, although HAMSTER notes that its in-game text is in English. Preserving console conversions alongside arcade originals is an important development for historical game releases: home versions often contained substantial technical, graphical and mechanical differences, and in many cases were the editions that players actually grew up with.
