Halo Special Edition Original Xbox Returns as Illuminated Hallmark Collectible

Hallmark unveils a licensed Christmas ornament reproducing the translucent green Halo Special Edition original Xbox console with matching controller and lights.

One of the most recognisable variations of Microsoft's original Xbox is receiving an unexpected miniature tribute. Hallmark has introduced a collectible Christmas ornament inspired by the translucent green Halo Special Edition Xbox console, a design that remains particularly memorable among collectors of early-2000s gaming hardware. The original Xbox launched in 2001 and helped establish Microsoft as a major console manufacturer, while Halo became the platform's defining franchise. The translucent green special edition combined the console's distinctive industrial design with a colour scheme strongly associated with Master Chief and the Halo universe. Hallmark's miniature version reproduces that appearance as a decorative ornament approximately three centimetres long. It includes a small matching controller attached to the console, complete with a visible cable. A built-in lighting effect gives the impression that the machine is powered on. The product is officially promoted through Xbox's social-media channels and carries a listed price of $27.99. Although it is obviously not functional gaming hardware, the ornament represents another example of the growing market for collectibles based on early console designs. As the original Xbox approaches its twenty-fifth anniversary, its distinctive appearance has become increasingly recognisable as an artefact of a particular period in gaming history. Collectors interested in preserving console hardware may regard the ornament as a novelty rather than an essential purchase, but its official licensing and attention to familiar details give it some appeal. The original Xbox was famous for being enormous, heavy and almost impossible to conceal in an entertainment cabinet. Hallmark has finally solved those problems by making it small enough to hang from a Christmas tree.
