GoldenEye 007 Fan Recreates the N64 Game's Sniper Rifle as a Full-Size 3D-Printed Prop
A GoldenEye 007 fan recreates Rare's classic Nintendo 64 sniper rifle as a full-size, deliberately low-polygon 3D-printed physical replica.
GoldenEye 007's wonderfully angular N64 weapon models have escaped the television screen thanks to a fan creating physical 3D-printed replicas of the game's arsenal. Reddit user Arnielthegreat has now completed the famous sniper rifle, recreating the low-polygon weapon with its wooden-style stock, reinforced rear section and long metallic barrel. Rather than redesigning the gun as a realistic modern firearm, the project deliberately preserves the unmistakably blocky geometry of Rare's 1997 Nintendo 64 classic. The sniper rifle joins several previous creations including the silenced PP7, DD44 Dostovei, RC-P90 and the much-maligned Klobb. Even Bond's famous first-person slapping hand has been reproduced. The process begins by extracting the original 3D models from GoldenEye before repairing geometry, correcting symmetry issues, dividing the object into printable sections and creating suitable joining points. Prototype prints are then produced and refined. The creator has also made the printable designs available for other enthusiasts rather than keeping the files private. GoldenEye remains one of the N64's most recognisable releases and an important milestone in console first-person shooters. Projects such as this demonstrate a different form of game preservation, turning distinctive graphical assets from ageing software into tangible objects that retain the limitations and visual personality of the original hardware.
