FACTS Ghent Celebrates Zelda's Fortieth Anniversary With Retro Gaming and Halloween Attractions

Belgium's FACTS convention concludes at Flanders Expo Ghent, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda with retro gaming hubs and Halloween horrors.

Belgium's FACTS convention reaches its final day on November 1, transforming Flanders Expo in Ghent into a sprawling celebration of gaming, comics, animation, collectibles and nostalgic entertainment. The autumn edition runs from October 31 through November 1 and features a particularly appropriate combination of retro-gaming culture and Halloween attractions. One of the gaming highlights is recognition of the fortieth anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo's famous adventure franchise introduced in Japan in 1986. The convention's gaming activities include Nintendo-related attractions alongside arcade machines, retro consoles and more contemporary interactive entertainment. For collectors, the event also provides opportunities to explore gaming merchandise and memorabilia through numerous exhibitor stalls. Halloween introduces additional theatrical entertainment, including the Salem Hospital Horror Experience, which offers visitors an alternative to the comparatively relaxing activity of browsing videogame cartridges. The programme also features a Smurfs exhibition celebrating television history, Marvel-related promotional activities and numerous fairground attractions. FACTS is not exclusively a retro-gaming exhibition, and its broader pop-culture focus should not be confused with a dedicated classic-computing convention. Nevertheless, the event remains relevant to videogame enthusiasts because it connects several generations of gaming culture in one location. The official organisers confirm opening hours of 10:00 to 17:00 on Sunday, with earlier access for eligible VIP and Fast Pass visitors. Events like FACTS demonstrate that nostalgia extends well beyond simply replaying an old cartridge. Sometimes it involves meeting fellow enthusiasts, discovering obscure merchandise and remembering why spending an entire afternoon discussing Nintendo hardware once seemed like a perfectly normal activity.
