Eldemar Kickstarter Brings Allister Brimble Back to an Ambitious Native Amiga RPG

Darkage Software crowdfunds Eldemar, a native Motorola 68000 Amiga RPG fusing Zelda-style exploration with Doom-like real-time combat and Allister Brimble music.

Italian development team Darkage Software has launched a crowdfunding campaign for Eldemar, a new first-person fantasy role-playing game designed specifically for Commodore Amiga hardware. The project combines open-world exploration inspired by early Zelda adventures with real-time combat influenced by Doom. Players will travel through forests, settlements, crypts and underground environments while fighting enemies, trading with merchants and solving environmental puzzles. Unlike many modern retro-inspired games, Eldemar is being developed directly for classic hardware rather than created for contemporary computers and subsequently adapted. Its engine is written in Motorola 68000 assembly language and targets AGA-equipped Amigas alongside systems using compatible RTG graphics hardware. The development team includes programmer Paolo D'Urso, graphic artist Christophe Romagnoli and composer Allister Brimble. Brimble's involvement is particularly noteworthy because his music helped define the sound of numerous classic Amiga releases, including Alien Breed, Project-X and Superfrog. The developers are planning a physical CD edition and a limited big-box package containing printed materials. The intended minimum configuration includes an Amiga 1200, Amiga 4000 or CD32 with suitable memory, while additional Chip RAM enables higher-resolution graphics. Support for Picasso96 and CyberGraphX broadens compatibility with upgraded machines. The Kickstarter is active, but the project remains in development and delivery is not guaranteed. Eldemar demonstrates the continuing ambition of developers working with classic Amiga technology. More than three decades after Doom transformed PC gaming, someone has apparently decided that the Amiga deserves another opportunity to prove it can handle corridors full of monsters.
