E-UAE ReAction v16 Improves Graphics and CD-ROM Support on PowerPC Amiga Systems
Version 16 of E-UAE ReAction arrives on OS4Depot with an integrated Picasso96-compatible device, 128MB graphics RAM, and expanded ISO/BIN-CUE CD-ROM support.
AmigaOS 4 users have received a substantial update to E-UAE ReAction, an emulator designed to reproduce classic Motorola 68000-based Amiga computers on PowerPC Amiga systems. Version 16 was uploaded to OS4Depot on October 22 and introduces improvements affecting graphics acceleration, CD-ROM support and configuration. E-UAE has a particularly interesting position within the Amiga ecosystem because it allows owners of newer Amiga-compatible computers to run software written for the original Commodore machines. Although AmigaOS 4 supports PowerPC processors, much of the historical Amiga software library depends on the behaviour of Motorola processors and custom hardware. E-UAE provides the necessary compatibility layer, while its PowerPC just-in-time compiler translates selected processor instructions to improve execution speed. The new release incorporates an updated built-in Picasso96-compatible graphics device, removing the need for a separate graphics-card file. Supported graphics memory can now reach 128MB, while rendering improvements reduce unnecessary screen updates. CD-ROM support has been expanded to include ISO and CUE/BIN images, CD audio and disc changes during execution. Users can configure drives through the graphical interface, with support for both emulated SCSI devices and suitable IDE controllers. Additional improvements include fullscreen switching, revised settings management and corrections to interface problems. The package is available under the GNU General Public License and requires AmigaOS 4.1. Copyrighted Kickstart ROM images are not included. The update demonstrates the unusual longevity of the Amiga software ecosystem, where newer generations of hardware continue emulating their predecessors. Apparently the only thing more Amiga-like than owning an Amiga is using one Amiga to emulate another.
