DroidDeck 0.4.0 Adds GOG, Epic Games and Amazon Libraries to Its Steam-Style Android Gaming Environment

DroidDeck 0.4.0 expands Android handheld PC gaming with GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon integration, KDE Plasma 6.7, and 57% PRoot performance gains.

DroidDeck continues developing at an impressive pace, with version 0.4.0 introducing a substantial collection of improvements for Android handheld enthusiasts. The update received detailed coverage on October 12 and expands the project's ambition beyond providing a Steam Big Picture-style interface. DroidDeck allows compatible Android devices to run a Linux-based gaming environment through an application rather than replacing Android with another operating system. Its latest release adds integration with GOG, Epic Games and Amazon Games, allowing users to sign into supported accounts, browse libraries and manage downloads. Cloud-save functionality is also supported for selected storefronts. The desktop environment has been upgraded from LXQt to KDE Plasma 6.7, while controller support now includes configurations emulating Steam Deck, Xbox 360, DualShock 4 and DualSense devices. Up to four controllers can be connected for multiplayer use. Additional improvements include experimental Steam touch controls, better support for folding displays and per-game compatibility settings covering Proton, FEX and graphics translation components. Developers report performance improvements of up to 57 percent in particular measured PRoot workloads, although that figure should not be interpreted as a universal increase in game frame rates. Store credentials are now protected using Android Keystore, while numerous interface and installation problems have been addressed. DroidDeck remains experimental, and individual game compatibility depends heavily on hardware, drivers and translation layers. Nevertheless, the project demonstrates how increasingly powerful Android handhelds can support software environments previously associated with dedicated Linux gaming devices. The idea of running Steam-style PC gaming software from inside Android is technologically ambitious. The fact that enthusiasts are already adding multiple competing storefronts suggests the project has developed a healthy appetite.
