Dementium II Returns to PC in New Remaster From Its Original Creators
Original creators Atooi bring Nintendo DS survival horror sequel Dementium II back to PC on Steam, featuring up to 4K resolution and authentic visuals.
One of the Nintendo DS's most unsettling horror adventures has returned to PC. Atooi released Dementium II on Steam on October 20, bringing the 2010 handheld survival-horror sequel to modern computers in an updated edition developed by the team associated with the original game. Dementium II follows William Redmoor, a troubled patient who awakens inside the Bright Dawn Treatment Center following a mysterious surgical procedure. Unfortunately, the hospital's medical staff appear considerably more interested in experimenting on patients than helping them recover. As William explores the institution and surrounding environments, reality begins to fracture, revealing monsters, dangerous corridors and increasingly disturbing secrets. The original Nintendo DS release was notable for attempting an atmospheric first-person horror experience on hardware rarely associated with sophisticated three-dimensional shooters. The new PC edition preserves the original environments and encounters while introducing modern display and control options. Players can select resolutions up to 4K or deliberately recreate the pixelated appearance of the handheld original. The flashlight can use either a modern lighting effect or the original DS-style presentation. An optional setting removes the musical warnings that previously indicated nearby enemies, making exploration considerably less predictable. The interface has been redesigned for a single screen, with keyboard, mouse and controller support. Steam achievements and handheld-PC compatibility are also advertised. The release is priced at $14.99. Importantly, this is separate from the poorly received Dementium II HD adaptation released for PC in 2013. Atooi's new edition represents an opportunity for the original creators to revisit their work. Sixteen years after its handheld debut, William Redmoor is back in hospital. Unfortunately, his chances of receiving competent medical attention remain extremely limited.
