Cotton Reboot and Cotton Reboot High Tension Return on Modern Consoles With Physical Editions Planned

Clear River Games confirms expanded digital availability and December 10 physical editions for classic cute-'em-ups Cotton Reboot! and High Tension! on PS4, PS5 and Switch.

Two colourful representatives of Japan's classic cute-'em-up shooting tradition have received another opportunity to entertain contemporary players. Clear River Games has announced expanded availability for Cotton Reboot! and Cotton Reboot: High Tension! on supported PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms, with physical editions scheduled for December 10. Cotton Reboot! originally appeared in 2021 as a modern reinterpretation of the 1991 Sharp X68000 version of Cotton, a horizontal shooter developed by Success. The game follows Cotton, an enthusiastic young witch whose motivation for saving the world is rather less noble than that of most videogame heroes. She is primarily interested in collecting Willow, a magical sweet that she considers considerably more important than diplomacy or planetary survival. Accompanied by the fairy Silk, Cotton battles supernatural creatures through colourful stages filled with projectiles, magical attacks and elaborate bosses. The remake introduces enhanced graphics, revised music, additional gameplay modes and an expanded scoring system. Cotton Reboot: High Tension! continues the story while introducing further combat mechanics, including an Over Tension system that temporarily increases difficulty in exchange for higher scoring opportunities. The sequel also features additional characters and a guest appearance by Marion from the Gunbird series. Both titles are receiving additional digital distribution, while collectors can preorder physical copies through Clear River Games. These developments should not be confused with completely new games created in 2026; their significance lies in expanded availability and forthcoming physical editions. Cotton has survived decades by combining demanding arcade shooting with cheerful artwork and exceptionally strange storytelling. Apparently saving the universe remains considerably easier when the hero can be bribed with enough candy.
