Cauldron Halloween Edition Gives the Amstrad CPC Classic Modern Controls and Three Difficulty Settings
Developer Devil-System releases Cauldron Halloween Edition for Amstrad CPC, providing 3 difficulty modes, smooth controls, and built-in mapping for the 1985 classic.
Palace Software's atmospheric 1985 adventure Cauldron has received a substantial unofficial enhancement with the release of Cauldron Halloween Edition for the Amstrad CPC. Developer Devil-System has revisited the original game, which combined broomstick-based shooting with platforming exploration and became famous for both its distinctive presentation and spectacularly unforgiving difficulty. Players control a witch attempting to defeat the Pumpking and claim the title of Witch Queen. The original adventure required precise movement across dangerous environments, often making the witch's broomstick feel more like an unreliable household appliance than a magical transportation device. The Halloween edition introduces three difficulty levels, allowing players to select a challenge better suited to their abilities. A dedicated training mode offers opportunities to explore without the same relentless pressure, while additional quality-of-life features include a built-in map, pause functionality, high-score tracking and game-saving support. Players can choose between Classic and Enhanced graphical modes, preserving the original appearance or enjoying revised environmental details. Movement has also been reworked through gradual acceleration, smoother braking and improved animations. The developer reports optimised rendering and more consistent gameplay pacing. Four language options are supported, and the downloadable edition targets suitable Amstrad CPC configurations. Devil-System openly acknowledges AI assistance during development. This remains an unofficial enhancement rather than a newly licensed commercial edition. Cauldron deserves its reputation as an important early example of combining different action-game styles, but its difficulty often prevented less determined players from appreciating its design. The Halloween edition offers another opportunity to experience its haunted world without requiring the reflexes of an actual supernatural creature.
