Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Arcade Announced With Cooperative Action and Retro-Inspired Minigames

Developer Art of Play announces Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade, a retro two-player co-op action game coming to PC and consoles with a 2027 Kickstarter.

The most enthusiastic time-travelling rock musicians of the late 1980s are preparing for another videogame adventure. Developer Art of Play has announced Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade, a new retro-inspired action game based on the 1989 comedy film starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. The project is currently being developed for PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch platforms, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to begin in February 2027. Its visual presentation draws inspiration from colourful arcade games, combining cooperative action with a collection of minigames based on memorable scenes from the original film. The announcement trailer features Bill S Preston and Ted Theodore Logan encountering historical characters including Napoleon Bonaparte, Billy the Kid and Beethoven. Two-player cooperative gameplay is planned, allowing friends to experience the adventure together rather than taking turns controlling the famously inseparable protagonists. Art of Play says the project will not use AI-generated assets. Promotional material also references the original actors' voices, although the available information suggests that dialogue may be drawn from the film rather than newly recorded performances. The game remains in development, and the announcement should not be confused with confirmation of a completed release. No final launch date has been established. The original Bill and Ted film became a cult favourite through its cheerful humour, time-travel premise and enthusiastic celebration of friendship. Previous videogame adaptations received a considerably more mixed reception, making this new project an opportunity to revisit the property with modern design sensibilities. Whether the finished game can successfully combine nostalgic presentation with entertaining gameplay remains to be seen. For now, the announcement offers a simple message to retro-gaming enthusiasts: be excellent to each other, and remember that even time travellers apparently need crowdfunding.
