Battle Squadron CD32 Remix Adds CD Audio and Two-Player Action to an Amiga Classic

ABG releases Battle Squadron CD32 Remix version 1.0 with 17 CD audio music tracks, two-player cooperative support, and enhanced 256-colour AGA menus.

The Commodore Amiga CD32 has received an elaborate unofficial adaptation of one of the platform's most celebrated shooters. Developer ABG has released Battle Squadron CD32 Remix version 1.0, bringing Innerprise Software's 1989 arcade-style shooter to Commodore's CD-based console with several enhancements. Battle Squadron was originally developed by Cope-Com as a follow-up to Hybris, combining fast vertical-scrolling action with detailed explosions, large enemy formations and an energetic soundtrack. The CD32 Remix preserves the familiar gameplay while adapting its interface and presentation to the later console. The game boots directly from optical media through a customised loading system, and menus have been redesigned around the CD32 controller. Two-player cooperative gameplay is supported using separate joypads. The most substantial audiovisual improvement involves the soundtrack. Original gameplay sound effects continue using the Amiga's Paula audio hardware, while background music is delivered through CD audio. Players can select between seventeen music tracks, combining original arrangements associated with Ron Klaren and contributions from the AmigaRemix community. The project also introduces enhanced 256-colour AGA artwork for introductory screens, menus and ending sequences. A built-in trainer menu provides additional options, while printable CD artwork allows enthusiasts to create a physical package. This remains an unofficial fan conversion rather than a newly licensed commercial edition. Compatibility may depend on the CD image and recording method used. Nevertheless, Battle Squadron CD32 Remix demonstrates how the CD32's capabilities can be used to enhance games originally designed for earlier Amiga configurations. Commodore's console famously struggled to establish a substantial exclusive software library. Modern enthusiasts are apparently still determined to improve that situation.
