AverMedia Core Go and Elite Go Offer Compact Docking and Capture Options for Handheld Gaming Setups

RetroRGB assesses AverMedia Core Go and Elite Go compact USB-C power-delivery docks, highlighting portable convenience and capture tradeoffs for handheld gamers.

RetroRGB has published a new hardware assessment examining AverMedia's Core Go and Elite Go, two compact accessories designed to simplify portable gaming setups. The October 15 review focuses on their usefulness with Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam Deck and other compatible devices. Core Go combines a USB Power Delivery charger with docking functionality, allowing users to connect supported handhelds to an external display through HDMI. The device supports video output up to 4K at 60Hz and includes a USB connection for peripherals such as controllers, keyboards or mice. Its compact design makes it particularly attractive for travellers who want to carry fewer separate accessories. Elite Go follows the same basic concept but adds integrated video capture functionality for users interested in recording or streaming gameplay. RetroRGB found the Core Go particularly appealing as a portable charging and docking solution, especially because it can also serve other USB-C devices. However, the reviewer was less enthusiastic about the Elite Go's value proposition, describing its integrated capture hardware as comparatively limited. The more expensive model costs approximately $40 extra, and separate capture devices may offer greater flexibility or performance. This is a practical accessory assessment rather than the announcement of an entirely new gaming platform. Nevertheless, compact docking and capture hardware has become increasingly relevant as enthusiasts combine modern handhelds with emulation, original-console capture and portable displays. A good dock can make a substantial difference to how conveniently those systems fit into everyday use. Buyers should still verify compatibility with their specific devices, power requirements and preferred display modes. The dream of carrying an entire gaming setup in one small bag is getting closer. Unfortunately, nobody has yet invented a similarly compact solution for the growing collection of controllers.
