Amigo 0.7.8 Lets iPad Users Synchronise Amiga Games and Save States Through iCloud
Amigo 0.7.8 enables bidirectional iCloud sync for Amiga save states, configs, and disk images on iPad, alongside precision Apple Pencil tracking for TVPaint.
Thomas Lübker has released Amigo version 0.7.8, bringing a significant convenience improvement to the Amiga emulator designed for Apple's iPad ecosystem. The update was published on October 9 and addresses a particularly frustrating limitation in the application's existing iCloud integration. Previously, a second device could upload information to cloud storage but could not reliably retrieve the corresponding files. The new version introduces proper download synchronisation for emulator setups, save states and disk images when disk synchronisation has been enabled. That means users can maintain a more consistent Amiga environment across compatible Apple devices rather than manually transferring configurations and progress. The update also improves Apple Pencil support in TVPaint, the classic Amiga graphics application. According to the developer, drawing input now aligns more accurately with the Pencil tip across the display when the appropriate Wacom tablet configuration is selected. The iCloud interface additionally indicates files that are still downloading, reducing uncertainty when synchronisation has not yet completed. Amigo is based on WinUAE technology and represents another example of vintage computing software being adapted for modern touchscreen hardware. Emulating an Amiga on an iPad is already an entertaining reversal of technological expectations: a tablet originally designed for contemporary applications becomes a portable home for software written decades earlier. Cloud synchronisation makes that arrangement considerably more practical. It also provides a useful reminder that emulation quality involves more than reproducing processor instructions accurately. Saving progress, moving files and maintaining reliable configurations are equally important. The original Amiga never had iCloud. Its modern descendants apparently consider that an entirely reasonable omission to correct.
