AmigaGPT 3.4.0 Adds Speech Generation and Reusable WAV Audio to Classic Amiga Systems

AmigaGPT 3.4.0 adds speech synthesis and exportable WAV audio to classic Amigas, bridging modern AI language models with vintage Motorola 68000 systems via ARexx and MUI.

Cameron Armstrong's AmigaGPT has received version 3.4.0, with the update highlighted by Amiga-News on October 9. The application allows compatible Amiga environments to communicate with modern language-model services, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. Its latest development focuses on speech generation, adding a dedicated interface for producing spoken phrases and saving them as reusable WAV audio files. Users can generate text, convert it into speech, listen to the result and save copies for later use. The new speech interface includes playback controls, waveform visualisation, phrase history and information about the selected voice profile. Underneath the interface, the ARexx SPEAKTEXT command has been extended to support WAV and raw PCM output across multiple speech backends. The application's main sections have also been reorganised into Chat, Image and Speech tabs. Other changes improve installation behaviour under AmiKit and MorphOS, while addressing connection problems and file-upload errors. The update also introduces reusable MUI interface components for text editing and audio playback. This is an unusual example of contemporary internet services being integrated into a computing environment whose original designers could hardly have imagined cloud-based artificial intelligence. Of course, AmigaGPT does not magically transform a Motorola 68000 processor into a modern AI accelerator. The actual model processing takes place through external services, with the Amiga providing the interface. Nevertheless, the result demonstrates the continued adaptability of classic systems. The computer that helped popularise desktop multimedia can now participate in modern speech generation. Somewhere, an original Workbench installation is probably wondering when everything became quite so talkative.
