Amiga360 Refresh 2026 Enters Final Testing as Xbox 360 Amiga Emulator Revival Targets October Release

Amiga360 Refresh 2026 modernizes Lantus's P-UAE Xbox 360 port with 4GB HDF support, USB keyboard integration, and save states as it targets an October release.

A community effort to revive and substantially expand Amiga emulation on modified Xbox 360 consoles has entered what its developer describes as the final intensive testing phase. Amiga360 Refresh 2026 is based on Lantus's historical Xbox 360 port of P-UAE, which itself recreated Commodore Amiga systems ranging from early OCS and ECS machines to AGA configurations and Picasso96 environments. The new Refresh project is intended to modernise that ageing console port, restore missing functionality and package a much more complete Amiga environment for today's Xbox 360 homebrew community. According to the developer's 13 September progress report, the finished release is intended to include source code and binaries without copyrighted Amiga ROM files or commercial software. Storage support has been expanded to handle HDF hard-disk images up to 4GB, while save states and direct folder mounting are designed to reduce the amount of disk-image management required for Workbench setups. The project also maps physical-keyboard functionality through the Xbox environment and introduces revised skins, music and numerous interface improvements. A separate PC-oriented version is planned for users who prefer the project's simplified interface to the conventional WinUAE front end. Comments from the developer indicate that both the Xbox Refresh 1.0 and the PC edition are currently being targeted for release around the beginning of October, although that date remains an intention rather than a guaranteed launch schedule. The current phase is focused on bug hunting and packaging rather than announcing the build as finished. Amiga emulation on Xbox 360 is a wonderfully specific preservation niche, but that is precisely what makes the work worthwhile. The 360 itself is now retro hardware, meaning Amiga360 represents one ageing console being used to preserve an even older computer family. Lantus's original P-UAE port was developed when Xbox 360 homebrew was far more active, but abandoned console software eventually develops compatibility and usability problems of its own. Refreshing those projects prevents entire branches of the emulation ecosystem from disappearing simply because modern developers focus on Windows, Linux and handheld ARM devices. If Amiga360 Refresh 2026 reaches its intended October release in stable form, owners of modified Xbox 360 systems will gain a considerably more capable route into Amiga games, Workbench installations and CD32-era software than the original port offered.
