A LEGO Secret of Monkey Island Diorama Gains Attention From Lucasfilm Games, but It Is Not an Official Set Yet

Lucasfilm Games EP Craig Derrick praises a detailed LEGO Ideas tribute to The Secret of Monkey Island by builder Pester78 featuring the SCUMM Bar and Melee Island.

A fan-created LEGO interpretation of The Secret of Monkey Island has attracted fresh attention from the retro-gaming community, including an enthusiastic public reaction from Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick. The project, created by LEGO Ideas contributor Pester78, recreates several memorable locations and characters from LucasArts' legendary point-and-click adventure series. Its elaborate multi-level design includes references to the SCUMM Bar, the International House of Mojo and Stan's famously enthusiastic second-hand business operations. Miniature versions of Guybrush Threepwood, Elaine Marley, LeChuck and the Voodoo Lady populate the model, accompanied by numerous references to the games' puzzles and environments. A decorative command interface also pays tribute to the original adventures' distinctive interaction system. The project received renewed specialist coverage on October 11, with approximately 880 supporter votes reported at that time. LEGO Ideas submissions generally need 10000 supporters before becoming eligible for formal review, and reaching that threshold does not guarantee commercial production. Derrick's supportive reaction is encouraging but should not be mistaken for an official Lucasfilm licensing announcement or confirmation that LEGO intends to manufacture the set. The project remains a fan proposal. Nevertheless, it demonstrates the remarkable cultural longevity of Monkey Island, whose original game appeared in 1990 and helped establish LucasArts as one of the defining developers of graphic adventures. Few videogame locations inspire quite the same affection as Melee Island. A LEGO version would be particularly appropriate because the original game's puzzles already encouraged players to combine seemingly unrelated objects in deeply unreasonable ways. LEGO enthusiasts should feel entirely at home.
