8BitDo Arcade Controller Pro Introduces Compact Leverless Controls for PC and Nintendo Switch
8BitDo reveals the Arcade Controller Pro, a leverless fighting game controller with Kailh low-profile switches, LCD display, and PC / Switch compatibility.
Accessory manufacturer 8BitDo has introduced the Arcade Controller Pro, a new all-button controller designed for fighting-game enthusiasts who prefer precision inputs without a traditional joystick. The device received specialist coverage on October 25 and is available for preorder ahead of a planned November 30 release. Its appearance draws inspiration from classic arcade hardware while incorporating modern customisation features. The compact design uses low-profile mechanical switches developed with Kailh, allowing individual buttons to be replaced without soldering. A quick-release tempered-glass faceplate provides access to internal components, while a removable magnetic wrist rest offers additional comfort during longer sessions. The controller includes five programmable auxiliary buttons and a 1.47-inch display showing input information, battery status and configuration options. Players can modify button assignments, create macros and adjust lighting through 8BitDo's configuration software. Separate controls provide access to connection settings and tournament-lock functions. Compatibility covers Windows PCs, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, although supported connection methods differ between platforms. Windows users can connect through a wired connection or a 2.4GHz wireless adapter, while Nintendo Switch systems support Bluetooth and wired operation. The rechargeable battery is rated for approximately fifteen hours with RGB lighting disabled. The controller measures approximately 301 by 201 by 16 millimetres and weighs around 1.09 kilograms. Its advertised price is around $120 in the United States. Although primarily intended for contemporary competitive fighting games, the Arcade Controller Pro also appeals to retro enthusiasts who enjoy traditional arcade fighters and customised control arrangements. Whether leverless controls are genuinely superior remains a matter of personal preference. What is certain is that arcade controllers have become considerably more sophisticated since the days when a joystick and six buttons were considered excessive luxury.
