Retro Games' full-size THEA1200 has returned to pre-order ahead of its revised December 4 launch, giving Amiga enthusiasts another opportunity to reserve the modern recreation after earlier availability dried up. The machine takes the familiar approach established by Retro Games' THEC64 line but applies it to Commodore's celebrated A1200, complete with a full-size case and functional keyboard rather than the decorative keys found on miniature nostalgia systems.

The project had originally been expected earlier in the year before its launch moved, making the reopening of orders a useful sign that the hardware is progressing toward its new date. A full-size A1200 recreation occupies an interesting place in the current retro market. Original machines remain highly desirable but increasingly require maintenance, ageing capacitors and storage hardware can turn ownership into an electronics hobby, and clean examples are hardly becoming cheaper.

FPGA upgrades and PiStorm systems serve enthusiasts willing to tinker, while THEA1200 aims at the player who wants something recognisably Amiga-shaped that can be placed on a desk and used without first negotiating with thirty-year-old components. The Amiga community has spent decades demonstrating that the platform is not interested in quietly becoming history.
