SiN: Reloaded Gives Ritual’s Ambitious 1998 Shooter the Second Chance It Deserves

Nightdive Studios unleashes SiN: Reloaded on PC and consoles, remastering Ritual's 1998 first-person shooter in the KEX Engine with 4K 144fps support and archival extras.

Nightdive Studios has finally released SiN: Reloaded, resurrecting Ritual Entertainment's ambitious 1998 first-person shooter on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The original SiN arrived in the same month as Half-Life, which is roughly the videogame equivalent of opening a very good neighbourhood restaurant on the evening somebody unveils food.

Yet SiN was unusually ambitious in its own right, offering interactive computer terminals, vehicles, location-sensitive damage, branching consequences and environments that responded to player actions. Reloaded runs through Nightdive's KEX Engine and includes both SiN and the Wages of SiN expansion.

Modern systems can push the presentation as high as 4K and 144fps where supported, while new textures, models, interface work, controls and map revisions address the bits that have aged less gracefully. Purists can switch back to SiN Gold-style visuals, while Zak Belica's soundtrack has been presented at higher quality and an archival vault supplies behind-the-scenes material.

The Switch edition can be upgraded digitally to the Switch 2 version without an additional charge. First announced years ago and subsequently delayed, Reloaded has taken the scenic route to release. Colonel John Blade has waited 28 years for another proper shot at Elexis Sinclaire. Compared with the remaster's development schedule, another loading screen should feel positively brief.
